An End-of-September Engagement Session in the Fox Valley

There are some couples who make being in love look effortless.

Kelli & Esteban are one of those couples.

For their engagement session, we spent the end of September exploring 1000 Islands Environmental Center in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, before heading into Downtown Kaukauna for a completely different look.

And honestly, I loved the combination.

We got the best of both worlds—beautiful natural scenery, followed by the character and personality of downtown.

It made their Kaukauna engagement photography session feel like a little adventure rather than simply showing up at one location and taking a bunch of pictures.

Starting at 1000 Islands

We started their session at 1000 Islands Environmental Center, one of those Fox Valley locations that gives us plenty of variety without having to go far.

The trails, trees, natural surroundings, and peaceful atmosphere created a beautiful backdrop for Kelli & Esteban's engagement photographs.

Late September was the perfect time for an outdoor engagement session in Wisconsin. There's something about that transition from summer into fall that gives everything a slightly different feel.

The air is cooler.

The light is softer.

And you can start to feel that Wisconsin fall season coming.

It made for a gorgeous setting for photographs that feel natural and relaxed.

Then We Took It Downtown

One of my favorite things about engagement sessions is that you don't have to stick with one look.

After spending time surrounded by nature at 1000 Islands, we headed into Downtown Kaukauna.

And suddenly, the entire feel of the session changed.

Downtown Kaukauna gave us architecture, streets, storefronts, and a little more urban personality.

That contrast made the gallery so much more interesting.

You get the romantic outdoor portraits...

And then you get photographs with a little more movement, personality, and city energy.

It's a great reminder that your engagement photos don't have to fit into one specific style.

Especially when someone says, "Okay, now pose!"

Cue the awkwardness. 😂
