Fall Family Mini Sessions at Lower Cato Falls | Reedsville, Wisconsin Family Photographer

There’s something pretty special about photographing families you’ve known for years — especially when those families have been part of the Chasing Lilies Photography story for more than a decade.

Last Sunday, I spent the day at Lower Cato Falls in Reedsville, Wisconsin, photographing a series of family mini sessions surrounded by beautiful fall scenery, gorgeous Wisconsin light, and some of the absolute best people.

But what made these sessions extra special wasn’t just the location.

Every family who came to these mini sessions was someone I’ve photographed before.

Some have been Chasing Lilies families for over 10 years. Some started with a family session years ago. Others first came to me as wedding couples, and I’ve had the incredible privilege of continuing to photograph their families as their lives have grown and changed.

And honestly? That is one of my favorite parts of being a photographer.

From Wedding Days to Family Photos

One of the greatest compliments a photographer can receive is when a couple trusts you with their wedding day — and then keeps coming back as their family grows.

I’ve photographed engagements, wedding days, newborns, growing families, milestones, birthdays, senior portraits, and everything in between.

So when I get to see those same couples years later with their children running around, personalities changing, and families growing, it feels less like another photography session and more like catching up with old friends.

That’s exactly what this day at Lower Cato Falls felt like.

It was laughter, hugs, kids being kids, parents trying to wrangle everyone into one photo, and plenty of those little in-between moments that make family photographs so meaningful.

Lower Cato Falls in Reedsville, WI was the perfect backdrop for these fall family mini sessions.

Wisconsin has no shortage of beautiful locations for family photography, but there’s something about photographing families outdoors in the fall. The changing colors, natural scenery, soft light, and relaxed atmosphere create the perfect setting for images that feel genuine and timeless.

And that’s always my goal with family photography.

I don't want your family photos to feel stiff or overly posed.

I want the photos to feel like you.

The giggles.

The cuddles.

The crazy kids.

The little looks between parents.

After 17 years of photographing couples and families throughout Appleton, the Fox Valley, Green Bay, and Wisconsin, I've learned that the best photographs come from connection.

Looking around at these mini sessions last Sunday reminded me just how lucky I am to have clients who continue to trust me year after year.

I've watched little kids grow up.

I've photographed couples become parents.

I've photographed wedding couples again as families.

I've watched families add new babies, celebrate milestones, and return year after year to document the people they love most.

That kind of longevity means so much to me.
